The Charleston City Market is commonly referred to as the 'Old Slave Market'.  It is important to know that slaves were never sold at the City Market (this happened in various nearby locations).  It was historically known as the 'Slave Market', because this was where slaves were allowed to gather to sell their own hand crafted, grown or cooked items.
